I love a good smushy dog love fest, but let’s be honest, it benefits me more than the dog.
Bravo, in this video, truly enjoys human-style closeness like hugs and kisses, but he’s more of an exception than the rule. Most dogs show affection to get something (usually a treat 🤣), not because they need affection in a human sense—and some dogs are genuinely uncomfortable with it.
The “affection” I prioritize over pets and snuggles is:
✅ Longline or off-leash hikes in nature — never met a dog who doesn’t find this the absolute best way to bond.
✅ Training that emphasizes connection, teaching dogs clear communication while strengthening trust.
✅ Intentional, fulfilling play…with obedience...like TUG, AGILITY, TRACKING, BRAIN GAMES, etc.! Mental stimulation + physical exercise = happy dog who is getting addicted to engaging and focusing by playing with you.
✅ CO-REGULATION — learning to regulate myself , my body movements and my emotions, in order to help regulate dogs is one of the healthiest things I can do.
✅ Respecting individuality — every dog has their own personality, and honoring that helps them thrive.

Meet She-Ra 🤍
She came into my life at just 4.5 months old—and somehow, I became her fifth home.
She-Ra was bred by @SabineErnsting, out of @MarkSaccocio’s Hector (a dog I’ve known since he was a puppy). She was placed as an IGP prospect, but what should’ve been a promising start turned into a very difficult hoarding situation in Texas. When animal control stepped in, @HeatherCarbery brought her along to D&C Training with the hope of finding her the right home.
That’s where @DiamondHansel and @ChristinaHansel saw what she really was—talented, special, and full of personality. And because they’re my chosen family, they did what they’ve done before… they brought her to me.
Just like they did eight years ago with baby Bravo, they trusted me with a dog who would challenge me, teach me, and grow alongside me. The very first night we met, I told her she was home, forever, no matter what our journey looks like.

IGP is the most complex and prestigious canine sport today, involving 3 phases, tracking , obedience and protection, with all 3 disciplines highlighting the highest level of teamwork built thru training, control, and dogs emotions showcasing the relationship. Formerly known as Schutzhund (translates ""protection dog"" in German), it originated over 100 years ago in Germany and was used as a selective breed test for German Shepherd. Today it has evolved into an international competitive sport for trainers and their talented dogs. It requires commitment, dedication, and talent on both ends of the leash and it becomes a life passion for people all over the world.
